Because
feed costs account for the bulk of the cost of
production on most sheep farms, it is important that producers
consider nutrition management a top priority.
Our products are designed to take
lambs from weaning to market. Nutrient requirements of sheep vary
with the differences in age, body weight, and stage of production.
We offer ration formulas that provide the ingredients
essential for proper growth, health and reproductive
performance.
Promote Healthy Growth in
Lambs
We make our products palatable for
lambs because we know how important it is for your lambs to start eating
properly You also want your and develop a consistent feeding pattern.
Lambs need balanced supplements to stimulate their
natural immune system.
Creep diets may be particularly important during the winter.
Energy and Protein
Requirements of Ewes
Ewe body weight does not remain
constant throughout the year, but changes through the breeding,
gestation and weaning stages of production. Nutrient requirements
are lowest for ewes during maintenance, increasing gradually during the
gestation period and highest during lactation. Your decisions
about feeding management are improved by knowing the body weight
and condition of your ewes at the following three levels: three
weeks before breeding; mid-gestation; and weaning.
After lambing, the energy and
protein requirements of the ewe increases significantly and you need
supplements to fend off body weight loss, low milk production, poor lamb
gains, and mismothering. This is especially important for ewes
with multiple births.
Rams at
Their Peak
Today, rams have larger mature body
weights and forage alone is not adequate nutrition for keeping rams at
their peak during their 45-day breeding season. During
this time rams can lose up to 12 percent of their body weight - that's
around thirty pounds for a 250 pound ram. Poor nutrition is
a major cause of ram mortality.
