Darrell Kimmel,
Feed Department Manager

 

Darrell has spent twenty-seven years in the feed business - mainly managing multiple feed and premix manufacturing facilities throughout North America.   As well Darrell has served in various leadership roles including Director/Chairman with ANAC (Animal Nutrition Association Canada) for Alberta and at the national level.

To insure that our customers get the best products and service that Co-op has to offer Darrell works directly with all Co-op managers on a daily basis.   “I enjoy building teams and supporting all of our staff to develop on a professional business level.  I am very happy to be part of the Co-op and truly look forward to the opportunities that the future is going to present for the Co-op and its members.”

Darrell was born and raised on a large farm and ranch in Didsbury, Alberta.  Darrell is married to Peggy; they have three married children and three wonderful grandchildren with another one on the way.

Bernie Grumpelt, M.Sc.
Nutritionist

Raised on a dairy and grain farm in Manitoba, Bernie has been with the Co-op organization since 1999. He received his MSc. Degree from the University of Manitoba in Dairy Nutrition.

He says, " Nutrition is my focus - learning more about nutrition and applying that to benefit our customers and the farming community is my main goal.  A great organization like the Wetaskiwin Country Junction Co-op makes this goal easier to accomplish."

Nancy Fischer, M.Sc
Nutritionist

 

Nancy Fischer has an MSc in Animal Nutrition from the University of Guelph and a PhD in Poultry Nutrition from the University of Saskatchewan.  Her research was supervised by Dr. Hank Classen and focused on enzyme effects on gut bacteria in wheat fed poultry. She has over 20 years of experience working in the Canadian Feed Industry for BASF Premix, ANAC, and, for the past 10 years with Unifeed/Viterra Feed Products as a mill nutritionist with an emphasis on swine and poultry, as well as some specialty animals. She is looking forward to her new role at Wetaskiwin Co-op.

Jay Crandall
Grain & Commodity Merchant

 

Jay has 30 years of grain merchandizing and feed mill ingredient buying experience.

Jay’s focus will be on helping Co-op members find markets for their grain production as well as assisting livestock, dairy producers and others with sourcing commodities for their unique operations. Jay is also pleased to be part of the team developing markets for organic feeds by sourcing organic grains from certified organic growers.

Al Johnston
Production Manager

 

Originally from south-western Ontario Al began working in the premix industry in the late 70’s with a privately owned company that was later purchased by BASF. After twenty-plus years based in Ontario Al transferred to the west where he continued working in the premix/feed industry.  He worked ten years with Unifeed/Viterra in Olds in various capacities prior to taking on employment with the Wetaskiwin Co-op.  Married with three young children he looks forward to meeting the challenges that lie ahead.

Brian Malmas
Feed Marketing Representative

 

Brian's vast experience in swine and beef production means he can help you with your toughest feeding challenge and that you will benefit from more than his professional attention.

With over thirty-three years with Wetaskiwin Co-op Brian has a wealth of knowledge about the feed industry.  He can help you custom-design a feed program that is an  economical and nutritional package.  He is committed to serving you with prompt efficient service.

Bill Smook, B.Sc.
Feed Marketing Representative

 

Bill is our Poultry expert.  He'll work extra hard to ensure you maintain good profits and get good service from the Country Junction.

He has been with the Wetaskiwin Co-op since 1981. Bill earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Alberta.  As staff Agrologist with the Country Junction Feed Mill he works with livestock producers to design nutritious and reliable feeding programs.

Kevin Cummings
Feed Marketing Representative

 

Kevin has been with the Wetaskiwin Co-op since 1992 and has served in a variety of capacities that cater to the agricultural side of the business.  He was born and raised in the Wetaskiwin area, lives on a farm here, and understands the needs of local livestock producers and the economics of doing business in Alberta.  He is proud to work for the Wetaskiwin Co-op and have the ability to learn new things and enjoys that he can help farmers everyday.

Kevin is married to Tammy.  Together with their two boys, Austin and Dallas, they really enjoy spending time on their farm and the opportunity to head to the mountains with family and friends and their horses.

Dave Gibson
Feed Marketing Representative

 

David was raised and helped run the family farm near Hardisty, Alberta.  He became involved in the livestock feed industry in 2008.   His experience with cattle and horses is an invaluable asset.  David has been involved with rodeo for 20 plus years. He made the CFR in Edmonton seven times and was the 2002 Canadian Champion Steerwrestler.

David is married to Karen, who loves to barrel race. They have a beautiful little girl named Kaydee who is very horse crazy.

Wendy Shantz
Administration

 

Wendy has been with the Co-op since 1996. She is the one that will answer your phone calls or be at the front counter to help with your feed and fuel questions or refer you to one of our specialists. Raised on a farm west  of Millet and now living in Wetaskiwin with her husband Mark, Wendy has four children and two grandchildren.  She and her family enjoy camping, fishing , golfing and many more outdoor activities which keep them very busy.  Wendy looks forward to hearing from you for any of your feed or fuel needs.

Colleen Martens
Procurement Supervisor

 

Colleen has been a part of the Wetaskiwin Co-op for over 25 years.  She is responsible for buying all the commodities, every thing from locally produced grains to international ingredients, all in an effort to produce the top quality feeds that the Wetaskiwin Co-op is known for.  It is very important to Colleen to be able to give the local farming community another alternative to market their grain. 

Colleen was raised on a farm in the Wetaskiwin area.  She is married to Bruce and has 2 children.  She has always enjoyed being a part of the Wetaskiwin community and getting to know the people here.
